Voices from the Past

Ray Bradbury, author of The Martian Chronicles and Fahrenheit 451, first attended the conference in 1972. Here he is in 2007, still inspiring SBWC attendees to write as if their lives depended on it!

Gayle Lynds tells attendees how she first came to SBWC as an aspiring science fiction novelist. Now she is a NY Times bestselling author of international espionage novels, including The Last Spymaster, and Masquerade.

Joseph Wambaugh, bestselling author of seventeen works of fiction and nonfiction, tells attendees he doesn’t believe in writer’s block, then goes on to his famed stories from his years as a LAPD detective sergeant.

Fannie Flagg first attended SBWC to see Eudora Welty speak. Now it’s her turn on stage, and she has published seven novels, including Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café, and I Still Dream About You.

Luis Alberto Urrea, author of the The Devil’s Highway, a 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist for nonfiction, talks to SBWC attendees about seeing his name in print and living a writer’s dream.
