Read great authors but don’t write to be great. Write to create, to inhabit a world you can grow into.

About Me

I am a novelist, screenwriter, and enthusiastic reader of everything. I’ve had one novel published and self-published another, and am delighted to captain a pirate workshop after (almost) twenty years coming to the SBWC. Bring anything. Bring it in any state. Bring yourself in any state. Just come for a listen. Or for a snack. We are friendly pirates.

What I require of my students

Respect for the people sharing their work.

My advice for writers who have never attended SBWC

You will experience a complete hero’s journey in a week if you let yourself. You will rejoice and despair. You will abandon hope and find it. The only “don’t” is don’t hide in your room.
