Start clean and simple. Don’t try to write pretty or noble or big. Try to say just what you mean. This is hard because you have to find out what you mean, and that’s work, real work. (Gertrude Stein)

- Rebecca Robins

Opening night will be Sunday, June 17 2018.

Workshop leader updates for 2018 are still in development.

The Craft of Humor Writing

Humor is everywhere. Every vacation, weekend outing, family function — even a trip to the mall — is fodder for humor, but capturing it is challenging. My interactive workshop concentrates on finding humor in everyday situations, getting it onto the page, and rewriting it to make it funnier and more saleable. Workshop includes lectures on technique, fun in-class exercises, read and critique sessions, and valuable marketing tips. Whether you want to write a humor column, or add humor to your novel or screenplay, my workshop will help you learn to see, think and write funnier.

Workshop Leader

Ernie Witham

I have been writing the syndicated column, Ernie’s World, for the Montecito Journal for 17 years. I am the author of three humor books: Ernie’s World the Book, A Year in the Life of a ‘Working’ Writer, and my newest, April 2016, Where Are Pat and Ernie Now? A book of humorous travel adventures. My humor has appeared in magazines and many anthologies including more than twenty Chicken Soup for the Soul books. I have led humor workshops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Whidbey Island, and on Cape Cod. I find great pleasure in helping people to get their funny stories onto the page and into circulation. [More]
